Summer Series

The 2018 Summer Series at the Rothko Chapel offers a variety of family-friendly programming including tai chi classes, summer solstice observations, family-oriented meditations, and concerts on the plaza.

All programs are Pay What You Can with a suggested contribution of $10 per person.

For Summer Sounds concerts, bring your family, friends, a blanket and enjoy a summer night of music! Complimentary beverages will be provided by Saint Arnold's Brewing Company. In case of inclement weather, check for updates on individual event pages, Rothko Chapel Facebook or call 713-524-9839.

Summer Solstice Sunrise Observance

We celebrate sunrise on the summer solstice with a performance of classical Indian ragas by Prema Bhat starting at 6:20am, followed by a labyrinth walk facilitated by Jay Stailey on the Rothko Chapel grounds.

Summer Solstice Sunset Observance
Thursday, June 21 2018, 8 PM

Join Kaminari Taiko of Houston, a Japanese drumming ensemble, to mark the end of the longest day of the year at 8:25 PM with a performance on the Plaza.

Twelve Moments: Mindful Moments for Parents and Families
Wednesday, July 11 2018, 12 PM

Led by Simone Woodage from Dawn Mountain, this session will offer busy parents some simple, sharable practices to promote mindfulness and full attention in the present moment.

Summer Sounds: Arazeel
Thursday, July 12 2018, 7 PM

Arazeel’s repertoire includes: forró, a musical genre that originated in Northeastern Brazil and has African roots, Palestinian folksongs, Lebanese folksongs, and popular songs by Iraqi and Egyptian composers.

Summer Sounds: Mariachi Imperial de America

Led by Jose Longoria and including his sons, Mariachi Imperial de America's members represent various regions of Mexico including Guanajuato, Tamaulipas, Zacatecas, and San Luis Potosi.

Twelve Moments: Laughter Meditation

Led by MD Anderson Chaplain and Certified Laughter Yoga Teacher Stephen Findley, this session explores the history and role of laughter and silence in this experiential family-friendly meditation.
