2025 Concert for Peace with Jaipur Literature Festival Houston
Pay What You Can $15-25 | General admission chair seating
In honor of the United Nations’ International Day of Peace, the Rothko Chapel will host a contemplative morning of music and poetry in collaboration with Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) Houston. This special program, held in September, will feature Indian classical music by acclaimed Carnatic vocalist Sandeep Narayan and original poetry by youth from The Fay School.
Established by unanimous UN resolution in 1981, Peace Day is observed globally on September 21 as a shared call to action—a time to set aside differences and commit to building a culture of peace.
Sandeep Narayan, a leading Carnatic vocalist, was born and raised in the U.S., where he began learning from his mother, Smt. Shubha Narayan. At 11, he moved to Chennai to train under the renowned Shri K.S. Krishnamurthy. After Krishnamurthy’s passing, he continued his training with acclaimed vocalist Shri Sanjay Subrahmanyan. Following his bachelor's degree in California, Sandeep relocated to Chennai in 2002, where he has since worked as a full-time performer and teacher.
The Jaipur Literature Festival, often called the “greatest literary show on Earth,” began in India and now brings its celebration of books, ideas, and culture to cities around the world. JLF Houston, now in its 8th year, reflects the city’s rich cultural diversity through literature, music, art, and dialogue. The festival takes place September 5-7 across Houston-area cultural sites, learn more: jlflitfest.org/houston
